"A 20TH CENTURY REINCARNATION OF IMHOTEP: THE MULTI-GENIUS CHEIK ANTA DIOP" By Divine Lord Sekhem

Updated: Apr 29, 2020

There was a time in recent history when the land of West Africa was the intellectual light of the Islamic and Medieval world with its Intellectual and Spiritual Centers of Timbuktu, Djenne, Gao, and Songhai. Even in the time of the Pharaohs the people of West Africa were known for their Supreme Intelligence and Spiritual Wisdom.

Emerging from these Ancestral Lands of West Africa was multi-genius Cheikh Anta Diop who held degrees in Egyptology, Physics, Linguistics, Anthropology, Economics, and Sociology. Cheik Anta Diop was born on December 29, 1923 at Diourbel, Senegal. Born into a Muslim Family who was a part of the Mouride Brotherhood-a spiritual order of African Wisdom and Islam founded by Spiritual Leader Amadou Bamba. Diop was raised in the traditional Islamic School and also received traditional African Wisdom as well.

With the Academic World standing on the foundation of racism, many white historians and scientists taught the Caucasian was the Original or First Man and Civilization started with Euro-Asians. Regardless of the scientific and historical evidence which proved Africans were the founders of civilization, the Academic World in their biased perception still promoted a Great White Hope and a European Origin for Civilization. With years of studying and laboring in this prejudiced Academic World, Diop would make his presence felt Academically by writing numerous thesis’ which showed and proved through Scientific and Historical Evidence that the Original Man was an African Man born in the Great Lakes region of Africa as Dr. Leakey discovered, and the science of civilization began on the Continent of Africa.

Dr. Diop founded the Radiocarbon Laboratory at the University of Dakar in his home country of Senegal, and with the use of high technology in his laboratory, Dr. Diop would shatter the pillars of white supremacy in the world of Egyptology when he discovered through microscopic analysis, it was possible to know the melanin content or skin color of Egyptian Mummies. With this method, and working with a few common Egyptian Mummies from the Museum in Paris, Dr. Diop’s method showed and proved a high level of melanin in the few mummies he was allowed to work with. Dr. Diop then wanted to test the melanin content of the Royal Mummies of Pharaohs and Queens but the Egyptian Authorities refused to grant him any samples of the royal mummies.

In 1974 at the UNESCO Symposium in Cairo, Egypt, 20 of the most prominent Egyptologists in the world assembled to debate and present evidence on the race of the Ancient Egyptians. At this symposium, Dr. Diop along with an esteemed associate from Central Africa named Dr. Theophile Obenga, both presented evidence and argued on the Origins and Race of the Ancient Egyptians. Dr. Diop presented 11 categories of evidence (his Melanin test was one of them) which supported the fact that the Ancient Egyptians were Black and Dr. Obenga showed the similarities of language between the Ancient Egyptians and other traditional African languages. In weight of the Evidence presented by these two African Scholars, a consensus was reached at the symposium that the Ancient Egyptians were Africans whose roots were in the Central of Africa, and the Ancient Egyptians who utilized the Supreme Intelligence to build the Pyramids and Monuments of Ancient Egypt were pure-blooded Africans, not Europeans nor Asians, Ancient Egypt was an African Civilization the evidence proved at the UNESCO symposium of 1974.

Dr. Obenga made note that Dr. Cheik Anta Diop was the only African or Black Egyptologist of their generation. And for Dr. Diop’s hard and diligent works, besides founding a radio-carbon laboratory in honor of Dr. Diop, Dr. Diop has been honored with many titles such as “The Pharaoh of African History,” and also as Dr. John Herik Clarke once said about Dr. Diop, “He was the finest single mind produced in Africa of the 20th Century.”
